Training

I have been a personal trainer for over 12 years helping clients to feel better and stronger in order to keep up with their everyday life. During this time I have refined my work with clients utilizing a holistic approach to guide them to feel better in their bodies.

Over the years, I have endured and overcome major traumas, chronic illness and a major injury. I use my experiences to help guide, coach and educate clients on their journey.

I understand first hand what it is like to navigate the health care system when you are sick. I have Epstein Barr, one of the most common viruses to infect humans, and it took 10 doctors, a hospital stay, 2 years  and way too many steroids to get a diagnosis. Once I had my diagnosis, I needed to heal from the virus and the effects of all of the drugs and tests and emotional strain I endured over those two years.

Strength training, healthy eating and recreational sports have always been a part of my life. I have learned to enjoy and benefit from an everything in moderation approach.

My style of training is a more conservative approach taking into consideration my client’s abilities, needs, goals, and how that can be a moving target when dealing with injury or illness or pain. Personal training should be just that, personal and adapted to the individual client.

Strength training benefits include weight loss, stress management, increased bone density, less joint pain, better sleep, improved posture, increase in energy, and feeling stronger to handle every day chores.

Training sessions with me include low impact dynamic exercises with equipment or body weight as well as isometric exercises. Sessions are rarely high impact unless the client demonstrates the ability. Proper form is taught and reinforced with every exercise. Both half hour and hour sessions are available via Zoom or in person.

Injury

In the summer of 2022, I experienced my first major injury, a complete rupture of my right Achilles tendon. While I always had the knowledge to work with clients who were injured, I now have a first hand understanding of the whole picture and what it takes to completely heal. No one talks about the emotional piece of an injury but that plays a very large part in the process.

I went from being healthy and active to reliant on friends for almost everything. Surgery was a week and a half after injury which meant almost two months of crutches, splints, casts and a walking boot. Once the boot was off for good, there was a prominent limp I now had to work with and overcome. While my ankle was healing, my body took a hit. Especially my left hip.

I quickly put my team in place - the right physical therapist, acupuncturist and chiropractor and made healing a priority. With the right team, proper nutrition, supplementation, and shear determination, I have healed ahead of time and continue to progress faster than expected.

It takes teamwork to have a healthy life and the right team makes all the difference!

Training from Home

Training from home may seem like it would be less beneficial; however, over the last two years I have seen clients hit their goals sooner than when going to the gym. The logistics alone increase the ability to make your sessions without the need to cancel - no sitting in traffic, no forgetting your gym clothes or sneakers, no babysitter, etc.

When starting a new fitness program you do not need a lot of equipment. A few bands and a couple of weights is all it takes in the beginning. My programing is flexible and creative and utilizes your body weight and what you have available to get you results.

Many of my clients, whom I used to see in a gym, now have no interest in going back to that setting. Whether it is for medical reasons or emotional reasons, the gym isn’t for everyone. I have witnessed at home personal training sessions being more effective and efficient for many clients!

I truly look forward to my training with Michele. She's incredibly knowledgeable, motivating, encouraging, patient, and a true pleasure to work with. Not only have I seen a positive change in the way I look, but I also feel dramatically different. I'm stronger, and my energy is high than it's ever been.

I am fortunate to have Michele K. as my trainer. She is extremely dedicated to helping me achieve and improve upon my weight and fitness goals. Michele's attention to the details of an exercise or session means they are focused and efficient, getting better results. I am doing exercises that, due to previous injuries, I was unable to do when I first started. What I like most about her sessions is that she is constantly making minor changes to the exercises that seem to challenge me and keep it interesting. Her sessions are never routine.

We’ve trained via zoom since the pandemic started it’s worked out perfectly. In a way, I’ve enjoyed it more than going to the gym. I’m in the safety of my home, it’s easier to stick with our scheduled time without travel time to a gym, and forced us to be more creative.

I strongly recommend Michele.
